Surfer’s For Autism 2018

Surfers For Autism was a blast this year! Met great new people, including the guy who is taking over for Don next year when he retires, Moose Brown, and Amanda G., who I met at the start of the event and we hung out all day.

Private Sailing Lesson

For Valentines Day I got Mat a private sailing lesson for 2. Today we went out and used it. Our first time sailing together and Mat’s first time in about 30 years! A fun and new experience 🙂

Epic Wave Days

Yesterday Mat and I went to the beach because the wave forecast had the word “good” in it – that never happens at Jacksonville Beach. Usually it is “poor” or “poor to fair.” The waves were so huge and gave us a great workout to keep from drowning! Today the waves were gentle, rolling, smooth, yet still powerful. There were so many to choose from and we didn’t get completely worn out trying to get back out there. Baby, I had an epic two days of boogie boarding with you, thank you.

Florida State Parks Passport

Today I found out from Christy that there is a passport you can get and have it stamped at select Florida State Parks. Mat and I bought one today at Little Talbot and started collecting stamps. At Little Talbot we walked down the boardwalk and way out into the ocean from the secluded beach on a sand bar. The water was crystal clear, only ankle to knee deep (with the waves) and there were little white fish everywhere playing in the current. I took off my clothes and laid down in the water – it was incredible. There was even a shower at the beginning of the boardwalk to rinse off. We found a shell together. Afterwards we went to Fort George Island Cultural State Park. We did the full loop around on bumpy gravel roads. Then we saw the Ribault Club and discovered there is a paddle board/kayak launch right behind it, which takes you straight to Fort George Island (where we used to go on the boat)! A great discovery. On the way out we stopped and looked at some friendly peacocks which were in someone’s yard. We had so much fun!

Hamilton Pool

After spending the night in the vehicle in 28 degree weather and almost dying from the cold, we took a two night break in a hotel in San Antonio, Texas (I believe, or something of that sort). We ate pizza and watched house buying/fixing TV shows. Once we were fully rested, our journey continued to Dripping Springs, Texas to the Hamilton Pool. We were both blown away with how amazing this place was! We were one of the first people out to the pool and it was incredible! We got to walk all the way around the bowl of it, touch the waterfall from a rock, and yes, of course we went into it. Mat went first, then after he got out I went in, finally. The water was frigid. We both went numb from how cold it was, I think 62 degrees if I can remember correctly. So cold that I wore a life jacket out to the waterfall as I was certain my body would give up from the cold. It was definitely worth it! March 22, 2018.
